About Me

About Me

My name is Kayla Gracik and I am a preschool teacher in Lansing, Michigan. I am begining my fourth year of teaching this year at Cumberland Elementary School. This is my first year at Cumberland. I have taught at Harley Franks Early Childhood Center and Elmhurst Elementary School.

My Philosophy

Because I am currently a preschool teacher and have been for a few years, my philosophy is centered on the needs of a preschool student.  I strive to make my classroom developmentally appropriate and focused on the needs of each individual child. In my classroom you will find these characteristics built around my philosophy:

  • Community of Learners: My classroom is a safe and welcoming environment for all of my students. Students will gain independence and support, as well as practicing their social-emotional skills. These skills will help them gain the ability to function as a student and participate as part of a group.
  • Positive Classroom Management: Children in my classroom will be expected to follow classroom rules and conduct themselves in a manner that is safe and respectful. Good behavior and manners will be positively recognized throughout the school day.
  • Balanced Literacy: Children in my classroom will be exposed to a variety of literacy activities that follow the HighScope Curriculum.
  • Math Instruction: Students will gain basic math knowledge through the use of a wide variety of hands on activities. These activities will be supported by the Highscope Curriculum.
